The history of the Taschenbergpalais extends back to the year 1709, when August the Strong commissioned master architect Pöppelmann to design and construct a palace for the Countess Cosel.
The ‘Palais’ soon evolved into a cultural centre, accommodating crowned princes and the king’s most esteemed guests. Tragically, the building was destroyed during the Second World War, and ruins were the only sign left of these magnificent times.
Thanks to the initiative of the firm ADVANTA AG, based in Darmstadt, the rebuilding of the hotel, true to the original, could finally begin in 1993-94, and Kempinski Hotels & Resorts was entrusted with the management as a five-star Grand Hotel. The fascination and charm of the Kempinski Hotel Taschenbergpalais in Dresden has been preserved, as the architects and craftsmen were able to combine modern convenience with classic elegance. Today, the hotel has again become a favorite spot for Dresdeners, and enchants guests from all over the world with every possible modern comfort and luxury.
